Hi Brad, your critique club moment is here ...

Well, I like this shot - after the shot I just had to crit I can't believe you scored a whole .8 lower.

Placing the focus on the second car seems to be a lot of people's bugbear with this, and I don't understand people's reactions to that: to me it seems a great technique to get a sense of both foreground and background, giving process to the range of distances rather than things just tailing off into the background.

I like the high-key lighting, and really technically I'd guess you pretty much achieved what you were after. So welcome to the odd world of dpc designer-photo preferences - because I've seen shots like this do very well, and I really don't think i can tell you why yours hasn't, because I don't know. I think i just don't 'get' this kind of shot - it isn't what I'm into photography for (I shoot 'found' situations in general).

Perhaps John Setzler is right with his comment about the background - things like this need to be really smooth technically to do well here: but I like the graininess in the surface the cars are on - my reaction ws that it might be texture rather than processing.

Without any commentws from you, it's difficult to know what you were trying to do though.

Good luck

Ed

Interesting shot. I'd take away the piece of red paper in front, plus I' like the opening of the jar more to the right. I'm not sure the pink background works here; maybe try a white background. Still an effective shot. I love chocolate eggs. Jacko. 7

this is a good idea. I like the colors and the theme. I'd like more dof on the gold choco-egg on top of the stack in the opening of the jar... since my eye is being led to it by the arrangement of the other eggs.

Nice image. Good composition with colors. I think that the picture is a little out of focus though, because the image itself looks a little dull.

the remnants of Easter... :) A diffuser (sometimes just a piece of light-bond paper will do) would help to eliminate some of the bright spots on the glass and wrappers. did you use a flash? if not lower light and a longer exposure works on still life shots like this. just a thought.

I'm not sure that the candy is enhanced at all by the glass, which is supposed to be the subject. For me, this doesn't work very well with the theme of the challenge. I also find the blown out highlights on the candy to be distracting. However, I think this would have done better than average in the 'candy' challenge...

The candy's the star of this photo. For a glass challenge, I'd vote much higher on a shot where the GLASS was the star.
