Dumplings In 4 Simple Stepsby romilComment by Neat: Like I said the comment stands, for a image to be taken through a window this is superb, maybe that's why it has that matte look about it which I love! |

Retrospectionby romilComment by sidpixel: *Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*
An interesting candid.
Your title suggests that he is having a 'condor' moment midway through his meal and is deep in thought, to me I feel he is engaged in a conversation with the person whose hand appears in the bottom right hand corner. Because of that I feel a sense of frustration that the frame wasn't lower and further to the right to include much more of this person. Whether or not that is the case I do think it would have greatly improved your image. As one of your commenters has said we have a lot of empty space, cluttered background and a yellow notice drawing our attention away from where I really want to be. There is a strong argument for a crop excluding the girl with the man on the left of the frame but perhaps there were other things in the missing space that prevented you from framing it in this way?
Your exposure is good and the DOF is sufficient for background detail without it distracting (I'm talking about a crop just above his head), and as mentioned by your commenter nice muted colours. With the present crop the other problem I have is the bright rim of the dish which is again distracting but with the suggested crop would have been another element in the story.
Thanks for another interesting contribution Romil, Sid |

Retrospectionby romilComment by vawendy: I adore this one, but somethings just not right. I don't know if I want it cropped lower so that half of the sign doesn't show in the upper left. I don't want it cropped too tight, because I love the feel of the story. But I think getting rid of the guys head and the yellow sign would leave less for the eye to get distracted with. |

A very competent portrait.
You have really nailed the essence of the person here with those engaging eyes, they really do appear to be the windows into his soul. Your chosen DOF is spot on to capture all those lovely characteristics that make him the individual he is.
I love your mono processing you have brought out all the lovely tones and spared us from any distracting colour. I'm glad you have acknowledged tvsometime's very useful comment that I also agree wholeheartedly with, it would make an already strong image even stronger.
This really is an excellent portrait, that has been well received, but the only issue I have as a result of seeing your own description is the title, perhaps given the nature of his occupation something like 'small but deadly' would have been more appropriate?
Thank you for a great submission, Sid |

Dumplings In 4 Simple Stepsby romilComment by Neat: Clearly a very beautiful photo. The processing and the wonderful tones and light are just splendid. I probably would say it's the best photo in this challenge, except there's one thing, this is in the wrong challenge, just wondering if you thought the same or if you thought that you could maybe shoehorn this challenge. |

Dumplings In 4 Simple Stepsby romilComment by LoVi: I remember making raviolis many times....dim sum....tortellinis..... yet another time...of course pierogies every year and gnocchi on another festive occasions.......each VERY time consuming. Most delicious...very time consuming. If you want a simple dumpling just mix egg, flour, a bit of baking soda, salt and milk into a thick batter..... spoon it into boiling chicken stock until they float. THAT'S pretty simple. |
