Flower Girlby SonifoComment by catpixel: It's not a comment on your skills as a photographer, this is a well taken photo. Tto me the pose is highly inappropriate for a child. This is very clearly imitative of adult fashion, even soft porn, shoots. A 20 year old posed in the same way, wearing suspenders with no shirt, with the same expression, would be considered a sexy shot. The expression is just not natural for a child, the effect is quite disconcerting. |

Flower Girlby SonifoComment by Wes: Nice use of color. Though it looks unnatural overall. I'm not exactly sure what it is about this picture, but something feels unnatural to me. |

Flower Girlby SonifoComment by clicker: Excellent shot! I like the way the color of the flowers stands out against all that brown. Good focus.

A Gift For You!by SonifoComment by andrewm: Critique Club
This composition of this photo is deceptively simple. The large bow catches the eye instantly—such a recognisable object and then with the great contrast between the blue ribbon and the white of the package your eye is firmly held by the ribbon. You have used the rule of thirds for your composition and it is very appropriate for a present. The huge contrast between the dark blue of the ribbon and bow and the gift wrap is very eyecatching—and added to it the shiny nature of the material this makes for an eyepopping picture.
There is no technical information but I would guess that you used either a flash or direct lighting from above as the shadows are quite hard. The lighting has slightly overexposed the wrap as there is no texture—perhaps you removed all colours apart from blue—as the slight blue shadow near the ribbon shows. I think you probably oversaturated the blue as the colour is harsh. But the glitter and reflections are shown clearly.
But the whole point of this picture and what gives it its great appeal is the universal emotion we all have when we look at a beautifully wrapped present—we love it- we want to hold it-- to open it . We all have memories of great gifts and this evokes in the viewer those memories. The simplicity of your picture puts nothing in the way of the viewer and their memories. Well done –you have evoked the child in all of us.
