Passing by (b&w 2008 #3)by nikolaosComment by NikonJeb: A good image, but I agree that a different approach may have been made with the crop.
I'd almost like to see just the window with the passerby to see how that'd look.
Certainly an image that evokes intrigue amongst us!
That can't be bad.....8>) |

Abandoned (b&w 2008 #4)by nikolaosComment by nikolaos: Originally posted by pawdrix: Nice landscape. Where was this taken? |
In a city called Aigio (alt. Aegion) in west Greece. The buildings where warehouses/factories for raisin in the late 19th - start of 20th centuary. After the decline of raisin production the factories where closed and abandoned. Now they stand as a protected heritage site with some buildings used as museums.

Abandoned (b&w 2008 #4)by nikolaosComment by Stiger: This is one of my favorite shots posted so far. The contrast, detail, perspective. All fabulous. Such a dramatic sky. And the border ties it all together. I love it. |

Abandoned (b&w 2008 #4)by nikolaosComment by SandyP: Oh, I DO like it. I love the dark feeling and the beautiful composition. It suits the eerie abandoned feeling. I love the detail you achieved tho -- even dark -- it is amazing. |

Abandoned (b&w 2008 #4)by nikolaosComment by nikolaos: Originally posted by wronp: Looks like a stormy day. The darkness and the clouds accentuate the abandoned feel of the photo. Kind of like in the movies. Ever notice that no one never finds a haunted house in bright clear weather? I like the blurring of the waves. I assume that's the 3 stop ND and CPL. Pardon my ignorance but what does that mean? |
ND = Neutral Density filter, reduces the light entering the lens by a certain amount (equal to 3 stops in this case)
CPL = Circular Polarizer, it is used more often to reduce the amount of scattered light entering the lens (reflections) and increases the contrast of green and blue. It also reduces the light by 1.5-2 stops and that's why I used it here, plus an f/22 reduces even more the light so I get a longer shutter (1sec) which blurs the waves. I wanted more in this case but that's all I had :)
