Safe and Secureby CharleneComment by nutzito: Very nicely done. Grain, duotone and softness work very well here.
I regret the senseless tendency of dpc voters to over-rate razor-sharpness, noislessness and eye-blinding saturation.
In the real world of photography you must make choices like the one you did, depending on the story you are trying to tell.
The same people who have voted 5- would have probably voted 7+ for this photo if the challenge was "grain". That means many voters will not see beyond the tip of their nose unless they are forced to. Message edited by author 2008-02-14 03:16:19. |

Safe and Secureby CharleneComment by colorcarnival: How sweet is this? I love the closeup and the composition. It's so emotive and I am sure that as you look at this years later, it will often bring a smile to your face. I think I would have preferred a soft focus instead of the grain, but that's just a personal taste kind of thing. Cute pic! |

Safe and Secureby CharleneComment by krnodil: Great use of grain, and the super close-up perspective turns this into an intriguing and delicate abstract. |

Safe and Secureby CharleneComment by posthumous: I gave this a 7. The grain made it feel like an old old memory, and the composition is as comforting as... well... sucking your thumb. |

Safe and Secureby CharleneComment by Hipychik: I like it...like the grain and the softness. It does make me feel safe and secure too. I was a thumbsucker! Nice! |

Light's Up the Skyby CharleneComment by colorcarnival: lol this looks like some kind of baseball park shot with the lights there. You have baseball in your blood for sure. I love how the lights are reaching up into that strong, contrasty sky. The blues are beautiful! |

Light's Up the Skyby CharleneComment by Alicia: This is very much your style, Charlene. I love it - the starkness, the high contrast with the blue in there - really stunning. Stupid voters, I say! Goes to show you what happens when you try something out of the DPC box. |
