Love of Lifeby CharleneComment by bluefish: I like the combination of the blurred motion and the dappled light. I think it creates an interesting mood in the image. |

Years of Tormentby CharleneComment by Alicia: OMG Charlene, we ended up right next to each other. Your photo is really much better than mine. I love the high contrast and needless to say, the composition is totally awesome. The title is the icing. Interesting that you got a 6.5 from your commenters, but a 5.1 from the overall voters. Should have ended higher... but we all know how that goes. :o)

Service Without a Smile by CharleneComment by Melethia: Interesting that compared to other commenters, I didn't even notice the guy in the foreground. I noticed the wall woman (she's different!) then the waitress. They make an interesting pair and seem removed from the rest of the folks who are somewhat sandwiched inbetween them. Neat shot! |

Years of Tormentby CharleneComment by Melethia: I like the doll for this shot - I tend to think of dolls as kind of creepy in a way, and this one fits nicely. I think you already have some good constructive comments. I'll echo that there needs to be a bit more detail somehow in the hair, or perhaps a tighter crop to alleviate the large black space formed there. I do love the choice of B&W, and the bit of lace in the lower left. |

Service Without a Smile by CharleneComment by bassbone: Edgy stuff - the light streaming in from behind, the disinterested diners, the waitress overwhelmed - a bold effort for a FS. I think an area that could have really helped was a more purposeful focus on the waitress and her discouragement. |

Years of Tormentby CharleneComment by bassbone: Charlene - what a great title to complement the feel of the image. Component wish, I think the image is very solid - the face slightly at angle, the lace and fine work to frame the dolls head, the misplaced hair - but I think it is lacking something. The black and white conversion seems very flat in my opinion. Maybe a bit of sepia tone to give it an older, used, and forgotten feel. Also, maybe a slightly different treatment on the composition may have helped. A more square crop, with focus more directly on the face itself, and lighting (likely from the side) to emphasize the nicks and scratches and neglect that this pretty doll endured. |

Years of Tormentby CharleneComment by colorcarnival: Looks like you got a really nice critique there. But still, even tho I didn't vote in the challenge, I cannot figure out why this scored so low. It reminds me of stuff that you'd see back in the black and white movie days. Makes me wonder how old the doll really is. Good shot. |
