Day 3by EstimatedEyesComment by slaakso: The light behind the plant is really showing off the beauty of this macro. The bokeh makes for a wonderful background. |

Day 5: Lupineby EstimatedEyesComment by Arcanist: Am agreeing with PP commentary, but trying to figure out what is causing it. Looks like there was somehow some movement in the tip of the flower that the rest of the stabilized stalk did not readily exhibit. At 1/180, I cannot image not freezing this subject unless the wind was whipping at a 100mph. Perhaps it is a haloing effect between the fore and backgrounds. Rather than USM, try a duplicate layer Highpass with a very low px width and soft light or overlay to complete the sharpen. That may eliminate the halo.
Love the subject and composition. |

Day 3by EstimatedEyesComment by MelonMusketeer: That is a complex looking little bud. I also like the back light, and understand the back light blowout at the tip. At that point, you were getting direct light plus the light coming thru the stamens. Good details in the near side of the stem in this shot. |

Day 3by EstimatedEyesComment by Arcanist: Great light and focus. Nice that you were able to stop down enough to mute most of the blow outs. That sun must have been intense...I miss the sun. New England at this time of year is more like a grey sky prison. Oh well. I can live vicariously through your nature walks! Voters might kill it in a challenge from the tip of the bud, but I still think this is a ten. |

Day 4by EstimatedEyesComment by Arcanist: AW! Perfection. A ten out of the gate. Color pop is phenomenal and the sharpness over the entire depth of the flower does wonders to separate it from the background. Bravo! Message edited by author 2008-03-04 21:50:10. |

Day 3by EstimatedEyesComment by kteach: Great lighting, and I especially like that you managed to keep the color and details in the front without this turning into a silhouette. Looking forward to more shots from this hike! |
