Using a 500mm for food photography is certainly an interesting approach, but I like your dedication!
The lens works well for making the subject melt into the background very nicely.

Also, looking at the thumbnail, it looked initially like a gigantic popped popcorn kernel.

Stuck in between two foods you can BBQ.
It's really difficult to BBQ duck. You really need a gas grill to pull it off nicely. Normally I would say you don't taste the heat, but the meat, but duck may be one of the only exceptions to that rule.

I'm stuck at work staring at day old pasta without a fork, and now I'm looking at tasty chicken. Why do you hate me?

I'm assuming a nice slow cook, but if you could have captured a whiff of flame, smoke, or the heat shimmer, it would have made a tasty chicken look even better.
