Room for Oneby dsidwellComment by StevePax: I'm not sure how it always happens, I had no idea this was your shot. But, I gave it a 10 (you can see from my comment below). Focus is fantastic. I never realized that the yellow and black is so distinctive - kind of like a wasp "fingerprint." The yellow color is so vibrant - I'm sure you "souped it up" a little in post-processing. Perhaps the only tiny thing that I would change, that you really don't have any control over, is that wasp in the left foreground. I kinda wish I could just see the one that's out, and the one that's sticking his (her?) head out the hole, and that's it. However, there's a lot of personality in this shot. |

Room for Oneby dsidwellComment by ChrisW123: Maybe should have flipped it to landscape so to give a more "natural" feel to the picture. Great macro, and nice background. |

Room for Oneby dsidwellComment by Imagineer: Ooh-er - look scary those! Where were they? Nice capture although DOF is almost too narrow but it just works OK. Good composition. |

Room for Oneby dsidwellComment by pinback: Nice clear shot with good sharpness where it's sharp, but the lack of sharpness on the antennae of the uppermost wasp spoils it somewhat. Lovely clear colours and exposure. Which camera is this? |

Speak No Evilby dsidwellComment by Sonifo: I agree with kiwi. I don't understand why this would get so many 1's and 2's.
Excellent image, David! |

A Maize of Cornby dsidwellComment by dsidwell: To Clues56: I simply held my camera in my right hand and the cob of corn in the other, pressed the cob against the bottom of the camera for stability, set a fairly deep DOF (actually I took about two dozen shots with varying depths of field). The entire shot was taken around 6 pm when the sun was still in the sky but fairly low, and I made sure that I was in the shade, with background stuff fairly far away. So my fancy lighting is the sun, but in the shade. |

An Aggie Moon over Old Mainby dsidwellComment by dsidwell: Right, Rob. I ran up there at about sunset, but suddenly all of my kids wanted to come too, so I got there a little late, so it was just after sunset. I hardly altered this shot at all; I did rotate it about 1 degree CW (apparently not enough!), and still had about 30 seconds to get it up before the challenge deadline!
This, by the way, is Utah State University--we're the Aggies, too, in addition to Texas A&M. |
