Glowby jcapps25Comment by posthumous: Yes! the highlights create positive shapes that in turn create negative space. However, you should crop closer or surround with other objects so that you create negative shapes as well as positive shapes. That's the point of negative space that even Langdon doesn't seem to understand. |

Relaxingby jcapps25Comment by Melethia: First impression - "Perchance to dream" would be my title - she looks lost in thought on a nice summer's day. Love the dress - it adds to that feeling.
Technicals - She and her dress look a tad overexposed compared to the grass. This isn't unusual when a camera "averages" a scene for exposure. Not sure how your camera works, but if you can set it to underexpose by one stop, that might be something to try in situations like this, where the exposure of your subject is more important than the average.
Meets challenge - to me it does. I didn't see many comments stating otherwise, either. The problem with Rule of Thirds, though, is that while it's a great guideline and learning tool, it isn't always the best "solution" for composition. In this picture, for instance, I'm not sure the negative space does anything for me, but I can't offer a different crop to meet the challenge, either.
Keep shooting - you definitely have a gorgeous model to work with here! |

Relaxingby jcapps25Comment by posthumous: I like how she looks into a field of texture, as though she is peering through the grass itself. I also like her expression, which is somehow determined and dreamy at the same time (determined to dream?). The way her skirt puffs out and then is cropped off makes it seem as though she is floating. This is a subtle but wonderful shot. 9 |
