Three in a Bucketby colorcarnivalComment by Lydia: I gave this a 6... better than average. I really like the dust movement and the 'story', but wish something else were also in focus with the number. I like to see images that would stand on their own outside of a challenge... and this one really fits the challenge, but wouldn't be so great outside of it. On the one hand, I should not be judging the images this way, because it's a really great talent to shoot "for the customer" which is what you're doing when you're shooting for the challenge. Giving the customer what he wants. A good, fun image.
I'm surprised it didn't do better in the challenge.
The colors are fun, the three is right in the rule of thirds. I dunno... |

Three in a Bucketby colorcarnivalComment by bspurgeon: Obviously meets the challenge, better than the average entry IMO. Good color. I think the composition is the only hindrance. It's not bad, but a slight bit of luck, or slight change in the POV, would have freed up the the third face. He looks like he is smiling, and that would have helped the story. The woodwork is tilted left, and seems to oppose the movement of the ride. One aspect completely out of your control is the attendant, the image does not need him and he is distracting the boy closest to him, but it's a candid, so it is what is. I think you did a great jog controlling the DOF and exposure. Most viewers will likely see the number, then move on right to the faces. It is a fun shot, and I'm sure representative of the fun day. Well done. Ben |

Three in a Bucketby colorcarnivalComment by Melethia: I'm not a good one to answer your question. I'm constantly befuddled with the finishes of some pictures. And hey, I recognize this location!! Colors are great, number is definitely the focus (and yet it still tells a story quite nicely) and woah, check out his arms! :-) |

Three in a Bucketby colorcarnivalComment by skewsme: One of my top 5! Sorry I didn't comment during the challenge. I love the color, the clarity and the dof. No clue why it didn't do better ('cept the usual... :P) Message edited by author 2008-09-22 08:35:09. |

Three in a Bucketby colorcarnivalComment by Purple_Girl: Shame you can't see more of the action as I'd find it quite interesting to look at, though I know the children are not the focus of the shot. The colours look fantastic. |
