Something Very Bad Is Going to Happenby lovemelvinComment by kanaj: Conceptually and thematically a big, bold swing. Even though this image doesn't seem to have connected for many in this challenge, I hope you'll keep pushing the envelope and producing work in this register. This one made me feel something--admittedly something unpleasant at first--and that's a sign of effective work. |

A Memory in Amber by lovemelvinComment by lovemelvin: Thank you! She is Simone from the 2002 movie of the same title. Kidding. She's just a SIM-ulation ONE, a collage from thin air. Not really proud of it tbh. Many more are deserving of the placement. But thanks for your comments and votes! 🥺🫶🏻
Edited to add: Yes, it was shot through the glass. I aligned the “tear” with the bubble in the glass, and used the base of the glass to magnify the same eye. Message edited by author 2026-04-28 11:42:58. |

A Memory in Amber by lovemelvinComment by kanaj: I concur with Deb. This feels cubist to me (or at least my novice understanding of the movement) with its vaguely familiar yet difficult to resolve deconstruction and reconstruction of the subject. I never quite sit at ease with it, and it definitely does evoke that ephemeral sense of trying to recall a memory where the details seem to change a bit with time. I was hoping for some notes on how this was constructed--looks like maybe prints viewed through a glass bottle? Also wondering if Amber happens to be the model's name?
Congrats! |
