Those are actually rusty (bent) metal rods protruding from a cement rock 😅 But you're right.. they look like branches

Compositionally very compelling. The fact that my eye goes right to the proud adults standing behind the graduate in the midst of this visually chaotic moment tells me this is a real photographer's candid capture.
