PAW - I guess that would be an old coot and a young coot. Very nicely composed. I especially like the reflecting reeds. As others said it would be much nicer if it was sharper, and maybe increased saturation. The border works well.

BIRDS can be a tough subject, especially when you commit to turning out a photo a week, so when the weather doesn't cooperate I can understand that your photo in a particular week might be soft or otherwise less than perfect, but.... with that said, WOW what a great shot! In terms of composition and content, this is fabulous. Congrats!

The composition is lovely. Coots are hard to shoot, because there's so much contrast between the feathers and the head, but you have nailed the exposure. I gave up on using a 70-300 (any 70-300), because it's just too hard to get a shot at 300mm with no motion blur unless it's a bright sunny day. The shutter speed just has to be too slow.

DO you use Photoshop for editing? I opened this in my version and tried smart sharpen at -62, then did a curves adjustment, followed by USM and it really made the image a lot clearer.
Nice find . Your composition is also very nice.
