Green Beetleby JuliBocComment by Melethia: Holy cow, that's a perfect 5.0000! Kind of a miniaccomplishment on it's own. I thought this a nice, well composed shot when I viewed it in the challenge. I love the light, and wished the bug had crawled just a wee bit more into it - maybe half in and half out. Composition is very nice and I like the muted colors, especially in the background. |

Green Beetleby JuliBocComment by noraneko: Julianne,
You must have had a private chuckle when the 'dirt' challenge came up after submitting this for free study! What I like in this photo: the mottled green background that matches the beetle well, the interplay of textures and the composition. I think it would be more captivating if the beetle's head was more in evidence and a bit sharper. Also, a fill flash on the beetle might be an interesting touch. Overall, this image grows on me as I look at it. |

Ivory Netsuke on Old Laceby JuliBocComment by undieyatch: Enjoyable miniature and careful choice of subject - a bit more contrast would suit me & possible silk fabric might have been an appropriate alternative. The white lace seems to function as an environ, more abstract folds and dof could be considered. However, as arranged, the detailed lace takes away from the netsuke main subject to an extent. |

Ivory Netsuke on Old Laceby JuliBocComment by bryantbus: There are many ways to fix this on the cheep while taking the photo, I love the ps fix, but you could try taking a some white poster board and using it as a reflector, or covering it with foil, I have used both in the past and some times still do. I do think the eyelet takes away from the figure, but as much as I like the figure I normaly don't give high score to photos of art, unless it is seen in a new light. Sometimes this can seem hard, you can look at my frist challenges and see how bad it can get. Hang in there, trust me you will get it. Some of these you just knock up to learning. Whoo I crapped out in postcard, just one of those things. |

Paddle Wheelby JuliBocComment by noraneko: Julianne,
I think you have very interesting perspective in this photo. On my monitor the blacks look a bit green, which may just be my monitor. I would like to see a bit more of the detail in the wheel, but it looks like it was a pretty difficult subject to light! Nice job. |
