I like the scene, but it comes off a little flat, the sky is somewhat dingy looking to me. Certainly worth a 6, but would probably get a 7 from me with a little more oomph to it.

sorry for being the voice of the nay-sayers in this case. :(
after seeing the scores thread with so many people wondering why their scores are so low, i decided that i was going to try to comment on either the 'true to form because' or 'i dont think it fits because' aspect on these images for the sake of people wondering "what are voters thinking", and "abandoned" is a general enough concept, but it really does have a connotation of value attached to it.
Based on your description, I get why you picked this shot, but wonder if maybe the bigger house with the newspaper still in scene wouldn't have resonated better with the community. I'd love to see some of your outtakes if you had any of the houses

Nicely seen, with great background bokeh. I think crop of just the upper 2/3 is a more pwerful image. The foreground bokeh does not really add to the impact.

A heron of some sort? Quite unlike any I have seen; I love the colours of it's plumage. The background bokeh provides the perfect backdrop - my only niggle is the small patch of bright green that has crept in at the left; I would also have preferred just a little more space between the end of the beak and the edge of the frame, but I suspect in this instance you were constrained by distracting (green) elements. Good work!

Looks a bit like a tricolor heron, but the field marks don't match. So, I don't know the ID of this bird. Great detail in feathers, eye and beak.
