This is a mediocre photo, at best, in my opinion. The choice of subject matter makes it that much less appealing (I was having a piece of chocolate when voting on this, and you might imagine I lost my appetite pretty quickly). You have to be very careful when working with something like this and find an artistic perspective that communicates an intriguing message. Particularly when working with potentially objectionable subject matter (e.g., something controversial, something gross, or something political), you have to be exceptionally clear in your communication or else you're sure to draw fire from critics and the populous in general. As is, in this case, the message I'm getting is just one of "I couldn't think of anything better to photograph."
