I often think about the balance between art and "real" emotion. This is an excellent example of both. Looking at artless emotion is often too much for a viewer to take. But when there's some art to it, like the composition here, and the lighting, the viewer has room to enter the emotion with you.
Usually, the subject of a photograph is not so directly emotional. From such photographs I want a more chaotic composition. I want to be thrown off by the art. But here, I want just what you've given me, curtains opening slowly onto the chaos within.
And for that chaos I offer my condolences. |
