Floating Aroundby GordonComment by Gotcha: Congrats on my highest rated photo of the challenge. 10 - The color is brilliant. Just a tad of blur on the oar showing motion, but I̢۪m not sure the blur adds anything for me on this shot. The crop is crowding the bottom of the shot. In a perfect world I would probably have centered the boat in the frame, but I have no idea if the crop is trying to hide something undesirable behind the boat. All in all a great shot, I can see this showing up in many sports clothing magazines. |

Panning for goldby GordonComment by crabappl3: Critique Club Comment:
Gordon, this is a fine shot! Not sure what I can say that would help you improve upon this masterpiece. You have a perfect pan here. The type on the cab is crisp and in focus, yet you have the motion blur in the background. DOF and lighting are right on as there are no distracting highlights or dark areas. Working with a one chance shot it's a shame that the back of the cab is cut off, but it's nothing that distracts from the fact that everything in the shot works!
Great job! |

Floating Aroundby GordonComment by Konador: I like the unusual angle. I think the boat is cropped slightly too near to the edge of the frame at the bottom however. |

Floating Aroundby GordonComment by ChrisW123: Love the bright, vivid colors, and especially the water color. 8. The only "flaw" is the blurry upper paddle fin. No big deal tho. |

Stroke!by GordonComment by muckpond: CRITIQUE CLUB!
There's really not much here for me to say. This is a well-done image, perfect in black and white, btw, and really makes me miss my crew days at IU.
My main irk is in the framing -- I'm not sure why the person on the left got cropped out (or just left out of the shot), but it does seem somewhat abrupt and leaves his oars out hanging. I would also like to see this with a little bit more of a severe contrast to see if the waterbreaks could be more like whitecaps and generally make the boat separated from the water more. Did that make sense?
Lovely photo. I can't wait to shoot outside again.

Floating Aroundby GordonComment by rmahan: Terrific angle for this shot. The colors are vibrant and you've composed it (or cropped it) very nicely. |
