Love the portrait but lighting doesn't work for me. On one level one could say that having him in the shadow and not in the light is part of the sadness but to me it just seems that it's lacking in fill-in light. What wonderful expressive features though - you've captured that superbly.

I might like to see this same shot with a darker background. He does look very desolate but the curtains or wall behind him does not carry on the same effect.

I think this is a particularly good photograph. Your uncle makes a great subject for a photograph. I also like the way he is separated from teh bright background and how the details in the 'age' on his face are still perfectly exposed. I think that the only possible improvement I can see for this image would be a little bit of catch lighting in his eyes... excellent shot :) = 10

Great subject, great expression on his face, great for this challenge. The only thing that I don't like is the backlighting which is always hard to get rid of. Maybe you couln't choose the angle and time, and it is quite nicely done if you consider the circumstances. Good luck
