Comment by Paul:
I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: This works really well; I like the 'woody' colour palette too, it suits the subject matter.

Critical stuff: Not much, I think this could've stood a tighter crop.

Overall: Nice work.

Hello Sigulðul, greetings from the Critique Club!

Thank you for entering the Still life with fruit challenge!

Regarding your photo:

Lighting
The reflection in the right apple and the shadow on the second apple and second pear are a bit distracting. Some bouncing of the ceiling could provide you with the necessary light from above to get rid of those. Also, some way to diffuse the light on the right could eliminate the bright reflection.

Composition
It's the best part of this photo, the general flow of this image is very soothing, and the mixture with the pipe and chess board is very good.
One suggestion for improvement is if you could eliminate the smudges on the wall in the high right (using some cleaner part of the wall) and moving the fruit back, so the chess board appears in full, without the border visible on the bottom.

Focus
Unfortunately, as said in some comments, the shot is perfect in the back, but the front pear should be in focus. Since it's so in front it's what most people will focus on.

Originality
It's a different take from many people, and the overall photo is quite appealing.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Regards,
Joao

The mutued colors are wonderful. I'd like to have seen the front pear in focus because it seems to draw attention away from the other fruits.

I like the pipe. I want the front left pear to be in focus. Shift everything left to avoid the seam on the right where the board runs out. Nice colortones. Good luck.
