the lighting in the bottom one give the apple pie a yellowish cast, so from first glance i thought it was like peas and chicken with a huge slab of butter on top, haha. there seems to be lighting coming from a window, so you couldve put the pie right in that light, or used lighting that was more harsh than warm and it wouldve helped. great idea though!
