Mmm... while I agree waves goes with the topic, the ones in this are a little on the wimpy side and the presence of the surfers ends up being distracting because of it. More background waves of a larger sort -- or even waves crashing over the boarding surfers' heads -- would have helped this impression. Also the extreme brightness of the shot really washes out the majority of the waves.

The waves make sound and if the subject of the picture was a wave crashing on a rock, then that would portray sound. Sound is lost as a subject in this picture. The surfer adds too much action to the feeling of the challenge.

This picture seems to portray action more than sound in my opinion. Therefore, as an action shot, it is done well. It is nicely focused and I like the reflection of the surfer in the water. I'm not sure as I like the over-exposed look. I would like to have seen some detail of the waves on the right.
