Highly underrated indeed! I remember this shot and it still strikes me a facinating capture. Love the beach and moody days like this. You captured it just right. I could stare at this for quite a while.

The arm is necessary - without it, that look that the horse is giving would be curious but meaningless in the end. With it, there's the connection, the caress mentioned in your title. The processing here is lovely - warm and soft, connecting the "connection" so to speak in gentle light. Excellent work.

You'll notice the commenter score is much higher. This is one of those shots that the DPC 1-second fly-by voter unfortunately never gets the opportunity to experience, which is their loss, not yours. Marvelously complex yet simple with a myriad of messages or meanings to be left to the viewer. The trapping of the shadow behind the fence, the tree living freely beyond...
