Looks a lot like my Emma only with a bit narrower face. I've discovered I have a very hard time getting autofocus with Emma - there's just not enough contrast in the face - the color of the fur seems to absorb light rather than reflect it, or something like that. Anyway, it's not just you! Also, the lens will have a hard time with autofocus in lower light situations. With Emma, I tend to try to manually focus to get her eyes, but she doesn't sit still much which makes it hard!

I knew right away what this was. Kind of a retro washing machine design, before the top-loaders took over. I always think those curves and thick glass are visually appealing. Good use of B&W.

I think your focus fell on the front lip of the bottom of the cross. Do you know how to MAKE your camera focus on the spot you want it on?? That may help you in this strange 50mm endeavour :P
