Very interesting composition - bit like a non-composition - certainly doesn't comply with any text book guidelines to composition that immediately come to my mind. There's a set of elements/things with tree trunk as backdrop and there's another set of elements/things in the cleft. Then there's old chush pat sitting slap bang in the middle of the whole thing, the typically feline disdain for everything not pertaining to self being nevertheless contradicted by that all-personality pose and look. It all works very well for me.

What makes this work for me is the warmth in his eyes. At 1/30th of a second, it's hard to get a sharp image, even with a tripod when you're shooting people - the darn things breathe and move and stuff. That said, I think you did a great job with this in post to get a very nice portrait!
