Old Goatby dwyllieComment by EL-ROI: There's always one person out there who has to push the limits of the challenge description. Bovinae, though part of the larger family of Bovidae, is strictly limited to cows, oxen, buffalo, yaks, etc... Goats and sheep are in the family of Caprinae under the Bovidae species.
Anyway it's a good photo but what is up with the background grasses in the bottom right corner?? Something weird going on there digitally. |

The Spinby dwyllieComment by Yo_Spiff: It's a cool looking use of motion blur. I like it. I can see from the voting breakdown and comments that a lot of people really liked it, but (as is the fate on DPC of blur and abstract shots) a lot of people also disliked it. A successful entry in my book. |

Old Goatby dwyllieComment by Yo_Spiff: Ummm... I'm probably not the first commenter to say thins, but just in case, I will. A goat is not of the bovine family. I looked up what it does belong to and I can see where your error came in. The goat is a member of the Bovidae classification, which though sounding similar, is not the same thing as the Bovinae group
Wow, this has been quite educational! It seems that Bovidae is the parent group of which Bovinae is the sub-group that includes cows, yak, bison, etc. The Caprinae sub-group is what includes goats. Closely related.
As far as the image itself, there is some major haloing around some edges in the lower right. Looks to me like you may have been trying to selectively blur the background and the selection edges are showing. Normally, this image would get a 5 from me, as decent but nothing about it really stands out, but those harsh edges brings it down a notch to a 4, for a good try that has a major problem.
It took me a while to read enough to clarify it to myself, so in spite of what I said above, I think you deserve a high vote from me, for some extreme out of the box thinking on this, as well as for making me go research it. |
