Stuckby jaysonmcComment by ubique: This will not score well I suppose, but I think it's really very clever and thoughtful too. The tree is indeed stuck among all these non-trees, and yet still competes for life even against the inanimate pretenders. It's probably losing, alas. 9. |

Quiet Cityby jaysonmcComment by ThingFish: And the city sleeps. Conveys a certain stillness and feeling of silence. I would have cropped out the "busy" bit in the left hand corner some. 6 |

Quiet Cityby jaysonmcComment by vawendy: I rated this lower, because there is still a lot going on in the city. With that many lights, that much traffic, it's not silent. It might have worked better for me if the left 1/3 of the photo was cropped out. the skyscraper on the left is almost completely lit, and the preponderance of lights in the lower left gives it a lot of life. without this 1/3, the scene is much darker, the darkest skyscraper has few lights on, and the lower half would be in more darkness--then I might have been more inclined to believe the quiet city. |

Stuckby jaysonmcComment by Melethia: I interpret this, by your title, to indicate the poor tree is stuck between buildings in an industrialized zone somewhere, when it would rpobably really prefer to be elsewhere. It loosely meets the challenge, but the tree doesn't appear to be you primary subject - I focus more on the door, which has its own intrigue. |

I like the use of negative space here. The "extra" sky puts a sense of context here, and the mission is not a dominant, grand piece of architecture. Instead, it conveys a sense of reverent hope & faith, though surrounded by vast emptiness. |
