a couple of constructive criticisms. A centered composition (kayaker right in the middle) tends to be a little boring. A better composition would have had him in the right side of the frame, giving a sense of him moving into the frame. I'm usually all for breaking the rules (rule of thirds here), but in this case, I think the rules would work. Also, the out of focus subject is distracting. Hard to get moving subjects in focus. Good use of the entire tonal range, though.

the focus point is on the trees at the back, so the rower is out of focus...sorry as this is a good composition and vantage point...also, is it high contrast in the true sense of high contrast? perfhaps not
