Cute! Rope in front detracts from your subjects.

I am not sure what Mr or Ms GoodEnd was trying to tell you about exposure getting the correct exposure in this picture. I can tell you the true way to get it right in the snow if you don't have a gray card to read from you should read the snow since you have a digital camera its easy just look at what the camera is telling you and make the exposure compensation about 1 or 2 stops more light to give the snow the light it needs to be white right now its a muddy gray color. Its easier if you were using a film camera and had a separate light meter I would tell you to meter off your hand in the shadows then open up 2 stops to get good snow color. From your exposure reading ap 6.7 and 125 shutter would have probably gotten you a good exposure for the snow and sign. If you can take that picture again after another storm try it out. I know this site seems for some reason to frown upon using photoshop or some other program but you could probably fix it that way too. Alter the color a bit and increase constrast and maybe saturation increase or decrees it. You also mentioned about showing us gum on the sign maybe you might want to cut down on the composition of the things in the back ground and make the sign more significant to the picture and blur the back ground and show us more emphasis on the gum of the sign right now they look like tiny splotches. I like the idea of the work though. Thank you for the picture.
