Life of Steelby OneSweetSinComment by ClubJuggle: *Critique Club*
FIRST IMPRESSION: Great choice of subject but the lighting is a bit harsh.
CHALLENGE: Meets the challenge.
COMPOSITION: I like the composition of all three shots, though as a triptych I would have personally preferred the closeup of the wheel as the center image. It would have been more balanced in terms of types of shots and lightness of the shot.
TECHNICAL: Though the exposure is good, the harsh midday light on these images leaves them seeming a bit washed-out and flat. Different light (weather conditions or even shooting earlier/later in the day) may have added visual interest to the images.
CONCLUSION: A good, promising subject that could be strengthened with a bit more attention to lighting.
Thanks for sharing and good luck in future challenges! |

Keepin the Rails Goingby OneSweetSinComment by frisca: Good focus on the subject, but I would have chosen a shallower DOF to throw those distracting background items out of focus. I like that you played on the brown tones in the rusted old wheels when colouring this picture, but I can't say I agree with how you choose to compose this shot. I thought about whether I wanted a tighter crop or a wider angle, and come to the conclusion that neither would have improved this one for me. Perhaps if you shot just the round wheels in behind sitting on the rails without the big one in front, it would have been a more interesting shot? These are just a few ideas -- feel free to disregard some or all! :) |

Penn State Altoonaby OneSweetSinComment by ss: I tend to be a bit "linear" but this half a degree tilt in the tower bothers me a bit. But otherwise it's great. Perhaps a bit overexposed - at least you lose some details in the sky. |

Keepin the Rails Goingby OneSweetSinComment by Bitz: Normally I do not like sepia tones because they seem lifeless, but in this case the choice was a good one, IMHO. Depth of field is great, also. |
