Profile in Low Keyby OneSweetSinComment by autool: Critique Club Critique
Name of Photograph: Profile in Low Key, by OneSweetSin
Composition: This picture is composed very well, you have good balance here and a wondefully different perspective of the subject. The elements of this picture lend themselves to the low key challenge very well.
Technical Aspects: Your lighting is wonderful, I especially like the blending of the black background with his hair and outline of his form. The skin tone is left quite flat which is the biggest problem with the shot, this factor has left out most of the detail and texture of his skin and natural details around his eye and mouth.
Challenge: I feel, with my limited knowledge, that this picture fits low key much better that many of those that scored higher.
Suggestions: My only suggestion is try to get more detail to show off his young skin tones and facial features. If it were mine I would make a quality print and hang it where every one would see it. Good job.

Homemade BREAD!by OneSweetSinComment by JPR: Nice idea, but i find this picture rather unappealing due to the clash of colors with the dull soda, the checkered tablecloth and the dark green leaves. Simpler is better. |

Homemade BREAD!by OneSweetSinComment by jodiecoston: Nice to see a still life entered in this challenge. I thought there would be more of them. I didn't have time to enter, but if I had, this is similar to what I would have done. Nice job. Perhaps a touch more lighting, specifically on the glass, to bring it out from the dark background, but overall quite nice. The fresh baked bread really does invoke a "country" feel. |

Homemade BREAD!by OneSweetSinComment by Martus: Nice country setting, but you need some more light in the background. Also I'd have used a less artificial cutting surface, wood maybe, to make it look more "country". =4 |

Profile in Low Keyby OneSweetSinComment by mci: this is a nice shot. my only gripe here would be that the skin tones lack tonal range. i'd love to see some more hotspots or high-contrast lighting (i've said this on a lot of the pictures i've commented on this challenge, but i really like higher contrast when working in low-key). other than that, i think this is worthy of a frame. the use of negative space to outline the countours of his face is great. good work. 8. |
