I remember a video on youtube where a man with a free hugs sign spent the day in some public place. Seems his idea is catching on. Glad you went for the group hug in the end.

Reminds me of the time my crowd at the dorm, with the RD's permission, hosted a 24-hour hug-a-thon out front of the building. We offered hugs to students, cafeteria workers, and a totally perplexed but amused and game UPS delivery guy. The whole thing was cooked up by Patch Adams, who was visiting at the time. It was neat, actually... probably explains a lot about me and my hippie tendencies in the forums here ;-)
