Thanks so much. I agree if I had moved the camera a bit to the left the distracting seed to the right in the picture would not be there either. Contrary to believes, small tortoises are not slow but move very fast especially if they think you have something good to eat:-))
My first thought was that the blur focused the baby more, after reading your comment I can see that some of it cropped out would look much better.
Your critique was very appreciated and thanks so much for taking the time. |

Wow, great shot of that desert tortoise. Super coloring and super focus on the legs and head of this creature.
It's hard to know what to critique in this image because I like it a lot, but I did play around with the composition a little. Smack in the center of the frame is not always the best composition, and if this guy would let you, an off-center shot would also be good. And if it was mine, I'd probably crop out a bit more of the foreground blur, but that's a matter of opinion and your crop works fine.
So, all in all a good image that met the Challenge nicely and one that gave you a fairly decent score.
Keep up the good work and I'll look forward to seeing more of your work. |

A Major Sugar Overloadby trolljentaComment by trolljenta: Thank you to everyone that took the time to look and to write a comment. Very much appreciated.
I just needed to let everyone know that the bee was not dead. He/it was just climbing up the petal and then flew away. I just happen to catch it at an awkward moment. I have more pictures, I just liked the way the body curved in this. This is also the actual coloring of this bee, people that saw these bees were totally amazed at the silver coloring and they were so very "furry". No-one has seen these bees around before either. Cacti flowers are so very colorful that I probably should have lowered the intensity of it. I will keep that in mind. |

Very nice close up/macro shot here with excellent crisp focus! My first impressions on the photo unfortunately were that I didn't like the coloring for some reason. I think the bee (which is your subject) is overpowered by his surroundings and that hurts the photo a little. If the bee had been bright yellow and the flower a softer or pastel color I think this would have scored even higher. Again, as I'm looking at it longer I'm so impressed with the razor sharp focus on your subject. To me it's obvious the incect is dead and perhaps that's why he's lost some color too. With basic editing I don't know if you could have fixed the coloring by bumping up the yellow channel but I would like to see what happens when you do. As far as the rule of thirds I do think the incect is right in that zone but the eyeball REALLY draws your attention and that is well off the verticle third line. I don't know if that hurt your or not but some might have felt it wasn't exactly in the thirds location. All in all I think you have a spectacular capture here and I think it was deserving of a 6.0+ score. You got robbed a little. :) |

Born Symmetricalby trolljentaComment by corinne: He's one mean looking turtle! I like the blurred out effect all around the turtle, but it's too bad that the outer portion of the turtle's shell got blurred out too. Like the colours in the background - they play off nicely with the colours present in the turtle. Nice entry |
