What a great moment to find and capture! All these cats slumbering in the window box is so adorable! The B&W treatment was, I believe, the best choice. Color would have been too distracting on the eye - this way the cats in the box (cat in the box...wonder if one is called Jack;-) ) are more prominent. Not to mention the details, shapes and textures in the environment of the shot is much more present.
