ha. I smiled. great idea.
did you try a slightly slow shutter for a hint of motion? I bet panning would have been an awesome effect too.

Comment by Melethia:
Definitely a different look! Great color in a challenge where color wasn't a popular thing. I particularly like the two small blue lights at the end. Don't know why - just do!

This was my top choice in the challenge. I'm a little disappointed to see where it finished but not particularly surprised ;)

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Jeff, there's nothing I could tell you about technicals that you don't already know. This was a two-second exposure so clearly you mounted the camera securely, and 5.6 f-stop gave you a decent depth of field so you could get all the branches in focus. It looks like you got the white balance correct in camera. That's better than I would have managed!

I find this a pleasant variation on the looking-up-a-tree shot (I remember when I took those in college and thought I was being soooo original! :) ) Obviously the lights in the branches add interest. Because each one is "bursting" with light, they look like explosions or fire in the tree. It creates a magical effect, that works along with the disorienting angle. And I agree that the curved building adds to the disorientation, since it seems like some kind of perspective distortion.

Did you sharpen this? It looks oversharpened to me. Maybe it just needs a little PP TLC. Not an option in this challenge, I know.

If I had voted in this challenge, I'd probably have given this a 6. For me, 6 means better than "just okay." To get a 7 or higher it has to be something I would consider hanging on my wall.

Nice capture. I also would have liked to see it from underneath revealing the further car in the negative space.
