A Moment of Silenceby Cjorgy2oo4Comment by Kavey: One can certainly understand the silent contemplation - and the silence of absence of the deceased. The circles of the wreaths give added visual interest. It's minor but I do feel that the umbrella shouldn't be cropped by the edge of the frame. If it were completely included, it would feel more like she's 100% in this situation, in this little snapshot of time, instead that escaping umbrella is a link to what's outside the frame. I know that's weird but I think having the key subject wholly enclosed by the frame would benefit the strength of the message. |

A Moment of Silenceby Cjorgy2oo4Comment by rixport: the most origonal of the 'grave yard' shots in this challenge.. and ther were lots of them.. composition is good.. a little tighter depth of field would have added drama to the image with the background more out of focus.. nice effort.. |

A Moment of Silenceby Cjorgy2oo4Comment by drydoc: This photo is right on the mark with the theme. The bowed head and her attention say it all. My own personal taste though: border should have been left off or done in black. It has a greenish cast on my screen. DOF might have been more shallow focusing on her and the grave site. I immediately get the idea from what is in the foreground and don't need the details of the background. The very best of luck. You got a high rating from me.
I have returned to this shot three times looking for anything to give it even a higher rating. . . I've gone about as far as I can go with an 8. |

Yellow?by Cjorgy2oo4Comment by indigo997: You got quite a bit of feedback during the challenge so I'll make this short. This shot fits the challenge, but didn't stand out as a strong image. I'm not sure what is behind the bowl on the right but it is distracting. Focus is too soft on the bananas, and the lighting is too harsh. I do like the black background. Did you try putting some white cloth or paper in front of the light to diffuse it some? See how the brightest areas are "hot" and almost look white? You need to adjust the lighting and/or exposure to avoid that. I'd also like to see more of the bananas. Maybe just shooting them against all black would be nicer. The table top is just distracting anyway.
Good luck and keep shooting! |
