Horizon. Plus, it looks to me like a filter (welders glass) was used to take the photo.

Lovely color but the tilted horizon hurts the image's overall impact.

Comment by jonatanpapp:
Nice, but it looks much nearer to red reflection as golden color is mostly just around the sun. Very nice capture though.

Comment by ShutterPug:
This would be better if you straightened the horizon, as it is dipping to the right. Also - would have really liked to see the entire reflection of the sun whereas it is cropped off on the bottom

HI from the Critique Club,

Tonight i'm leaving CC comments which are pretty random, kind of a flow of ideas/comments as the enter my brain. :) HOpe i make some sense...

You have done a pretty good job of catching this big guy in your frame. The stray grasses bother me somewhat. You have a very nice texture showing on his skin and especially his trunk. Compositionally shifting your shooting position to the Left just a few inches would have improved the image greatly(The ele would have been out of the center position and closer to the rule of thirds line) and the grasses would have still been in the frame giving a nice depth to the picture. I notice one commentator liked the center crop and to that I agree, if you could have shown a little more of his trunk. A center crop would be especially effective if the elephant had some eye contact with the viewer. RUN! RUN! RUN!

It looks like your exposure could have been decreased by a stop or so which would have given a stronger feel to the pic.

Considering the restrictions imposed by the special rules in this challenge you did a good job with this pic. Post processing could have helped you out immensely. For the next time you go to the zoo...seek out this guy or another one and take some pics with a really tight crop to emphasize the largeness of an elephant. Get him to charge at you if possible ;)

PM me with any questions or comments and keep shooting.

Cheers,
Mark
