Galleriaby Clou9Comment by Turbotech: Critique Club
Compositon:
For composition I look for several rules that may apply from S or L shape Composition to Rule of Thirds and Golden Mean. It appears that there is a base of L composition in this photo due to the photos on the frame as well as a Rule of Thirds inside the frame as well. After thinking about it it seems as thought you used the entire frame well.
Subject Selection:
I do feel that there is a sense of clutter distraction. I am not too sure what is is front of the picture frame. This computer I am using to view your shot is not mine so it seems a bit dark and there is no way to fix it. When I return home from my trip I will re-look at your photo and add or subtract from my original critique.
Overall Critique.
I will say that it appears dark and that it may appear a little cluttered, but I can not see certain things in the shot that were meant to be seen and I appologize for that since I am limited. Composition itself utilizes many forms and I think you did well with that. I consider this a 4.5 to 5.0 photo as is. With a little tweaking I would hang this on my wall.

Zoe In The Mirrorby Clou9Comment by Bullwinkle: OK everyone agrees that all cat pictures automatically score 10. This is a pleasant informal homey moment. With cuddly family appeal. Technically it is a good image in terms of DOF, exposure, interesting composition, etc. The rug texture gives it a cozy feel. As a minor point I would like to see all of the cat's tail. As it sort of looks like a pussy lollipop from this angle. Perhaps it is worth considering something like a human portrait. It's a choice between the whole anchilada, the midriff and up or a mugshot in general. The chioce of just a few colors helps to tie your picture together though. An honorable effort capturing a lovely moment. |

Zoe In The Mirrorby Clou9Comment by KimInNB: She's saying, "Aren't I pretty?" And yes, she is!! I would have liked to see a closer crop on the left side - too much white right now. I love the angle of the mirror. The white carpet works, but the end of her tail is cut off -- OUCH!!! |

Zoe In The Mirrorby Clou9Comment by PTLParsons: I can't tell, is he asleep? Love how you have him in the spot light. But the photo seems to have an orange tint to it. Wish you had been able to do away with that. Also cropped a little closer to his back and lightened a little might have helped. Just a thought. |
