Thanks for the PM, it certainly gives insight into your shot:

Hi Gerry

Thanks for your comment on my Duck You! entry.

In fact my score has gone up, nice and steadily.

You see, I don't shoot stuff that wins. What will win is a pleasingly composed shot of a ducky, saturtated to the eyeballs, probably clutched in a child's hand or balanced on their head or something similar.

Sorry, but just the thought of shooting something so boringly predictable puts me to sleep. But hey, if you want to win, that's the kind of stuff they want to see.

I will likely never win a challenge, and I really don't give a rat's arse if I don't. Or in this case, the arse of a ducky stuck headfirst into a goldfish bowl filled with whipped blue jello.

I joined this site to compete, learn, and have fun, and I am accomplishing all those goals by shooting what I want, not what the dpc vox populi want to see.

If you visit my homepage, you'll see that I belong to Team Suck. And as TS is home to many ribbon winners - levyj413, colorcarnival, Melethia, NikonJeb, basssman7, Doyle, SaraR, even silverfoxxx - we are by no means a bunch of talentless photogs.

So, maybe before thinking that mentioning someone's score likely isn't all that hight, maybe you should stop and think: who are you really shooting for, dpc? Or yourself?

Sleep on it.

Peace and love,

Susan

Peace and love,

Edit because I can't spell correctly the first time :(

A bit more contrast, or adjustment of curves to bring out the color, it seems dull overall its different from the rest of the images and I like it nonetheless

I'm impressed by your description of what you did with the jello to achieve this. I thought it was just bubbles in the tub, but then the whole point of good special effects is to fool the viewer, right? I'd like to know what you used for your homemade diffusers. As you can tell from my own entry, I have a little problem with glare on metal. BTW, I'm really surprised this came in below mine, but then I'm one of the people who gave it a 6.

added: Just read the in-voting comments. Noticed two differing opinions on the lighting. I've gotten a few opposite comments like that.

I very much like this! You really do seem to have a way with the horse - it is quite intent on listening to whatever you're telling it. Probably "no carrots for you if you don't pose!" or something to that effect.

I liked this alot when voting - a very appropriate entry for the challenge, and a gently touching photograph as well. Well done on light, composition, color, setting. A very effective photograph.

Nice blurry backgound with strong colours. I think the composition might work better if the stalk was coming in diagonally from one corner?
