Think "Color"by FocusPointComment by atupdate: Hello from the Critique Club:
Obviously from the make of your camera, the voters had no idea what Zen is or ever will be (Just kidding). Your own comments state that you don’t know what Zen is and obviously the voters didn’t think this vase was the answer. The trouble is that I don’t know what Zen is either. I didn’t vote in this challenge so it is a treat for me to review your image. I think on the technical merits your image is very strong. One commenter mentioned the uneven lighting in the background as drawing their attention away. My opinion is that the negative space to the right of the vase would not have worked without the graduated light. Yes it did draw my eyes to the right of the image but the flow of the transition between the dark and the light areas of the background kept bringing my eyes back to the vase. I really like this image and I would be proud if I were you to have it in my portfolio.

A decision moment of "Hit" or "No Hit".by FocusPointComment by glad2badad: Nice job freezing the ball! The red batter's shirt gives this image a nice pop. The background is a little distracting (cars) but not sure what the workaround is for that. BTW - did he hit it? ;^) Best of luck to you in the challenge. |

A decision moment of "Hit" or "No Hit".by FocusPointComment by Skip: nice idea, but a bit soft. also, this really should have been cropped vertically so that the ball wouldn't be so hard to find. this is a nice perspective to shoot from; be wary, though, of your backgrounds. even though they are largely out of your control, do what you can to mitigate their impact. here, moving to the right of the ump and shooting from a higher perspective (maybe holding camera over your head and shooting down) would have removed most of the cars from the frame. |

1 Dad-Powered "Twin-mobile" :)by FocusPointComment by quiche: Like the black/red/gray agains the green background. Personally, I'd prefer this more tightly cropped to focus on the dad and the stroller (eliminating much of the right side of photo). Multicolored border is so-so. |
