great subject but the light isn't the best - too many harsh shadows on the leaves/ flower. Something softer might have enhanced the feel.

I understand what you were trying to go for here, the contrast of the dark, reddish wood to the brightness of the flower, but it's not a very appealing affect. Maybe if you made the wood black and white or sepia tones and left the flower blue it would help but as it is, the textures just overpower the flower for me.

i really enjoy the photograph and it fits well with the catagory.. i think a slight cropping could be done.. a resizing. i think i'd like it better if it were longer lengthwise.. this is just my untrained eye talking though- i don't know much about academic photography.. in my opnion, everyone is entitled their own opinion and the critics that pick apart criteria as though the rules were set in stone ought not begrudge the artist their vision :) sorry.. i went off rambling. basically if you think this is the best it can be, then it's the best it can be ;) kudos.
