Maybe it's his glasses... but it seems as if his nose and his left eye (right side of image) are both in focus, but his right eye (left side of image) is not ... as if the DOF was so shallow that you couldn't get both eyes in focus. But again, maybe it's just the prescription in his glasses that is throwing the focusing off???

Edit to add:
But I absolutely LOVE the lighting. And the warmth in his expression is priceless!

i like the black background here and even though the light seems glaring it doesn't bother me. the only gripe i would have is i think either the hand or the face should be in clear focus depending which you want to emphasize.
