Shallow DOF is implied by the blurred sky in the background, but the background blur doesn't really do a lot to enhance or emphasize the subject as executed here. The image also suffers from a few technical deficiencies: composition, feet cropped out of frame; color muted and muddy; and overall a tad soft. Nice attempt though.

The bird isn't really sharp, and the background is kinda plain. Just pointing out things to improve on, not meaning to complain.

The picture is not sharp on the eyes, and the bw-conversion is very greyish. This picture realy craves for some more contrast imho.
