Knowledgeby signal2noiseComment by cmyers_6: this may have been intentional, but I personally would have used some lighting to separate the subject and the background |

Burj Al Arab at sunsetby signal2noiseComment by jaysonmc: The problem with this shot it is too small to really enjoy all the details. As such it is very easy to over look the details, especially considering the frenzy of FS voting. I might have cropped off the right a bit, but that would be about it.
A shot that suffers from the 640 rez. |

Burj Al Arab at sunsetby signal2noiseComment by jonfrommk: I can understand why you would have really liked this shot, it is nicely composed and applies the rule of thirds well. Also to be honest 5.32 is not that 'bad' in a free study when scoring tends to be very harsh
IMO perhaps the thing that it is lacking is a real wow facor. the sky is great but in terms of the building itself (the key element of the shot) the dusk has made it seem a little flat and whilst it certainly isnt lost in the frame neither does it really scream out look at me.
I think in a themed challenge this would have scored higher (top 5's low 6's) but in a free study when there are so many breathtaking images it was good but not great |

The Loopby signal2noiseComment by raish: I hate it when pictures are for story telling. I hate it even more when they do it so damned well. Then I have to like the picture that's doing the story telling and I have to hate myself for not having liked it in the first place. Hang on, I'm in a loop.
Seriously good application of the technique here. |

Burj Al Arab at sunsetby signal2noiseComment by Melethia: I really like this just the way it is. DPC does prefer more contrast, more saturation, but I like it simple and subdued like this - it's more natural. Another neat feature is that the sun is so tiny compared to the rest of the scene - don't know why that strikes me as interesting, but it does. |
