Too much contrast, not enough midtones. Wish I could see the entire front paws, dirt speck in the clouds. Nice DOF and expression.

Lovely setting; wish the dog's eye wasn't in shadow.

If Prince Charles could be a dog, he'd be photographed in this type of setting! *evil grin* Really beautiful shot! I hope you've printed this out and framed it!

Nice. The lighting is a smidge harsh on the top of his nose. Wish the eye wasn't in shadow. Love the composition. I might crop and zoom in on him a bit more. He's lovely.

Too saturatiated for my taste. The eyes of the dog has gotten lost in shadow

Greetings from the Critique Club

What a great self-portrait. I don't know where our voters were on this one, but they missed a beauty.

I didn't vote in that Challenge, so just now I went through and looked at the submissions. And kept saying "but his was better than that one, and that one as well..."

I don't have any way to tell you how to 'improve' this image, because, frankly, I think you did a good job. Lighting suits the Challenge requirements, composition is just fine and the focussing, for a portrait is, in my opinion, spot on.

About all I can do with this Critique is to encourage to to keep up the good work. You have a unique way of looking at the world, and pretty soon I hope it will be recognized. Meanwhile, keep shooting.

Sure is a bad day when you get hit in the eye. Maybe it's a bad night on the town. Doesn't quite hold my attention somehow - perhaps the gentle feeling that it's posed. Something to give it a touch of reality would make it all the more gripping, but that ain't there ...

Nice use of contrast to evoke a mood.
