I went back to check my shots. This is the best focus, and its off. So I went back to Mike and Gayle's garden in better light and nothing open. Another "almost good"

Ditto what ephln said. The halo around the stamen feels real odd to me. But I bet its from the tiny hairs.

Wonderful imagination to come up with that title. Nice image. I agree that toning out the background a bit might help and I also think perhaps going without a border might work better too. Please bear in mind that if you try those you may disagree ... can't really tell until you give it a try.
