Not sure if this post will land up in the photographer's comments section. some had asked during voting as to how i shot this.....
the setup is simple...straws are in a glass lit from above. the image is actually shot at three focal lengths. I set the camera on long exposure, lit the shot at 18mm then at 35mm and then at 55mm.

Awesome! I'm gonna guess you squeezed these tight, opened the shutter (in the dark) & let them go while hitting them with a couple strobe shots? This is a GREAT effect - bravo!
