Nice crisp focus. Interesting choice of crop. I would probably have tended toward cropping off the shadow area, but this does give it a very different feel.

Now knowing the story behind the photo, I do see your interpretation (I think) but it's one that was lost on about 99% of your audience, I wouldn't have worked it out in a million years if I'd not seen your explanation.

That said, I don't feel it deserved anything like the score it did though :-( There's nothing technically wrong with the photo at all. The details and lighting are excellent.
