I may be the only one but i'm just not resonating with the subject. And it is clearly not a still life in the classic form. Poor subject choice + Off challenge + Reasonably well executed = 1 from me. Sorry.

Hi, Crystal. This is going to make me hungry now. :P

As far as the challenge is concern this one hits it square on. I think that helps and also hurts you. In other words, it's a safe subject which is good in that you minimize low votes but you may also sacrifice some high votes who are wanting to be more wowed by the subject.

In terms of the image itself, it's good. I like the sharpness and it's full of color. What I think worked to your disadvantage was the shallow DOF and the composition. I don't really see a reason why the entire plate and fork wasn't in focus. Had everything been in focus I believe the cake would still stand out pretty well.

As far as the composition is concern it just feels a bit awkward, IMO. A square crop would have probably worked better or at least provide more space at the top.
