Ripples in sandby Elvis_LComment by Louis: Nice abstract. Has a nice layering effect going on: upper right shadow fringed with grass, water, heavily textured sand. Even the upper left branches reflected in the water and plants lower left add interest. I like this. |

Writer's blockby Elvis_LComment by Louis: Technicals are the same in the other one I commented on, but I wanted to mention that I really really like this. :) Very cool... and for some reason I particularly like the stogie. Another raw image full of drama... but I have to mention that your Homer tat does detract slightly (in the same sense that the UPC symbol does). |

Gunby Elvis_LComment by Louis: To comment on the technicals: I think the light is good, and suggestive of an overhead spot or lamp that would naturally be in what one can only imagine as a small cramped room, given the tightness of the frame. This is enhanced by the slightly vertical shooting angle. Combined, I get the sense of claustrophobia and dread you may have been trying to portray. I very much like the black and white; very rich and satisfying. The post treatment, the "streaky" effect, is interesting, and gives a disorienting effect. Just for my taste though, I would have gone with something less regular. As well, the UPC symbol on the bottle would have been better cloned away; it detracts for me, bringing me away from the overall mood.
About the image: Your subject (and I know it's you, but maybe not you) seems to be looking at his wedding ring contemplatively. The gun adds tension and much dread, since we have no idea what he's contemplating. It's an excellent image, with a lot of drama, pulled off without any in-your-face violence, or anything of the sort. It's really well done. Nice job. |

Writer's blockby Elvis_LComment by idnic: I like the lighting and posing on these, very emotional. But I don't like the processing. It reminds me of a scanner I used to have that was dying and did this to every image it scanned. lol |
